About Me
|
I'm Karen- married with 2 teenage boys, living in the beautiful Hunter Valley of NSW, Australia. When my kids were under 5, with the help of a Naturopath, we began our journey to change our diet and improve our health. We eat mostly gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, with as little additives and preservatives as possible, and organic if possible. As a result my eldest son's eczema (that he had since birth) is almost non existent; we are no longer constantly lethargic, which means my son actually enjoys being active (and I no longer need regular day time naps!); we no longer suffer from regular bouts of 'loose bowls' or experience regular stomach pains; we no longer get long, drawn-out colds and flu's multiple times a year ; none of us have suffered the regular ear and chest infections we once did; and none of have needed antibiotics since.
When we changed our lifestyle I was determined that we would still enjoy ALL of our food. So, I went searching! It's taken hours of research and experimenting, but I now have an amazing collection of recipes that taste great, that everyone enjoys, that the kids love to help prepare and that keep us healthy. I want you to know that intolerance friendly, real, whole food can be delicious and simple. And for those of you who don't have the time to do all the research, I've done it for you! All it takes is a little planning ahead, adding a few extra stock-items to your pantry and a desire to get healthy and stay healthy. On these pages you will find musings about my experiments, hints and tips for making the journey easier, and lots of recipes to try. All recipes are wheat free and most are gluten free. All have dairy free options. Most are free-of, or low-in, refined sugars. I try to stay additive and preservative free. I also have a whole category of my recipes that are grain free. If you have tree-nut allergies, please beware than many of my sweet recipes contain almond meal, but you'll also find many that don't . My other passions are photography and travel. You can see my photos on PhotographyByKarenStevenson.com.au and find me on facebook, and I hope to entice you with some salivatingly good pics of my creations! I started this blog in 2012 and it was a wonderful hobby when my kids were little. But as they've grown I've returned to other work and life is busy, so I rarely add to this site, but it's here for you to use as you wish. Read, learn, cook and enjoy! |
