Allow me to rescue you from over priced breakfast boredom! This cereal is nothing but goodness - both for your body and your taste buds. It's as simple as tossing some oats in maple syrup and giving them a few minutes in the oven while you whizz up lots of yummy ingredients in a food processor. Mix it all together and you have a delicious, nutrition-full, filling breakfast. This is really good with some freshly grated apple, or chopped kiwi fruit or pear, and a dollop of Coconut Yoghurt. Back in 2013, my lovely Facebook fans requested I post some gluten/dairy/sugar free breakfast ideas, so this is the first in a few to inspire you to eat more interesting breakfasts! You can scroll through all the breakfast recipes on my blog here. Credit must go to Alisha - the Naughty Naturopath Mum and Essence Practitioner for originally posting how to make this yogurt on her Facebook site. I tried it right away and have been making it since. It is SO easy. No special gadgets or machines - just a bowl, a whisk, a tea towel and a bench top! This stuff has a strong flavour! A little goes a long way. I use a little to top my Cinnamon Maple Cereal or Choc Avocado Mousse (recipes soon to come!). You can put a couple of spoonfuls into smoothies. You can add a little to fruit salad. Just make sure you keep some aside as the starter for your next batch before you eat it all! Ingredients
Gluten free - grain free - dairy free - refined sugar free - egg free - nut free Sometimes, breakfast for me consists of one of these smoothies and a handful of almonds. They also make a great, filling afternoon tea for the kids. I know there are probably thousands of smoothie recipes on the internet...green smoothies seem to be all the craze. All I know is that my kids like smoothies based on banana, with a few other ingredients, and this is the formula I tend to stick to! I use organic frozen berries. Berries are one category of food that has a high level of pesticides when not organic, and buying frozen organic berries is MUCH cheaper than fresh! This 'recipe' is just a suggestion, really. Be creative with what you have (the 'browner' smoothie pictured below has less berries and more greens)! You can make double and keep half in the fridge for the next day, saving you that precious time.
